Our Learning & Development department run the Harrods Management Programme (HMP) twice every year for employees who wish to become future business leaders. After a rigorous selection process which takes into account individual performance and ambition, candidates are selected to partake in an intensive ten month programme that provides tailored leadership training.
The HMP aims to develop a variety of skills, from relationship building to business acumen, management to public speaking. These skills, and many more, are put to the test in the HMP project undertaken by each employee. They are set the challenge of managing a project from conception to completion that will positively impact the business. In this year’s intake, projects ranged from expanding internal networks in our Food Halls to streamlining temporary recruitment in HR.
The HMP participants presented their projects on 5th June 2015 to each other and senior members of the business to demonstrate their hard work and reveal targets and impacts already achieved.
As the programme comes to a close, the journey to leadership can truly begin. Over half of our participants have already been promoted, and it is predicted that within a year of the programme, every single employee will have progressed.
One participant, who was promoted during the programme, attributed the HMP experience to her rapid development: The HMP put me in scenarios that allowed me to imagine what it would be like and prepared me for challenging situations I am sure to face in the future.
