Mark - Store Image Director
It's about the theatre and the magic...
Questions we asked Mark:
Hello, who are you?
"My name's Mark Briggs, I'm the Store Image Director of Harrods."
What was your first impression of Harrods?
"I saw Harrods for the first time on a field trip when I was at college when I was 16 years old. I remember looking through the windows and thinking 'this is the most amazing, glamorous store that I've ever seen'. I walked around the store in awe, which I think a lot of people do for the first time that they ever visit Harrods, and from that moment on I knew that I wanted to work in Harrods."
How does it feel to work here?
"There is very much a team spirit, right the way through to the directors that I work with, down to the people on the shop floor, to the people in the back of house. The other thing that I really, really love within my job is Christmas. I think Harrods comes alive every day of the week that the doors open, but especially at Christmas."
What makes it special for you?
"It's about the theatre and the magic that I work with in this store that I really, really enjoy doing. A large part of my job is to devise what a customer wouldn't expect to see anywhere else, which again is why Harrods has been here for over 160 years and it still continues to be the best department store in the world."
Your favourite window display so far?
"I think one of my most favourite windows that I ever dressed, was for a promotion in the 1980s, called White Christmas. All the windows were filled with perspex stalactites and icicles, so it was a complete winter fairyland. We'd just received, from the piano department, one of Liberace's glass grand pianos, and I remember putting that into the window, and dressing that window, which was absolutely amazing."
