Chanelle is an Administration Assistant in Restaurant & Kitchens and she tells what it is like to carry out her role.

What’s your role and how do you contribute to the business?

The fundamental responsibility as an Administration Assistant is providing support to an operation which consists of 15 own bought restaurants and 2 main kitchens- Production and Pastry. This includes ensuring that payroll is processed accurately for 140 chefs and stewards as well as monitoring probation periods, recruitment, new starters to the business etc.

What are the most challenging aspects of your role?

I feel the challenging aspect of my role is being part of such a large team as it can open doors to potential conflicts. With this is mind, you need to have the ability to get on with people, understanding their differences and how they deal with their own challenges. It is important to have solid guidelines and good communication skills.

Why would anyone want to work in your team?

Because no day is the same! I work in a team which strives on providing nothing but the best for its customers, which means there is always something new happening.

What has been your best moment since joining Harrods?

Since working for Harrods for the past 11 years, I have been given opportunities for my self-development which I know I would not have received having worked for another retailer. I would say that one of my greatest achievements was leading the refurbishment of the current chef’s office (located sub-basement). This included working with several key stakeholders within the business, sourcing equipment and even deciding what colour paint should be applied to the office walls.
