50 years at Harrods

My name is John, I celebrated my 50 years of service at Harrods on Sunday 23rd June. I thought that was strange as we didn’t trade on a Sunday. I checked the date again and the 23rd of June was a Monday in 1969.The same year as the moon landing and release of iconic films such as Midnight Cowboy, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Wow, the time has flown by. What has made my time at Harrods interesting, apart from role in selling menswear, of course, is that I was involved with our staff councils in the seventies and joined our Trustee Board of The Harrods Group Pension in 1995.

I have always been very active in the business. People often come up to me and say I must have seen many changes in Harrods over the years. Apart from the trading hours; the answer is no. The fantastic culture of Harrods has always been there; that feeling of being part of a family. It’s how I ended up staying here for 50 years. The store has always looked great, and lots of investment has been made to keep it like that.

It’s been a great 50 years!
