Building a data-driven organisation

I’ve been part of our Harrods family for ten years. I was living in Ottawa, Canada; a university graduate interested in pursuing a career in Buying. I knew Harrods was best in class for retail, so I applied to their graduate scheme.
I came to London for my interview, and when I found out I had got the position I made the move to the UK. I lived in a youth hostel for a couple of weeks before I found an apartment to get me started. The support I got from Harrods to make sure I was settled in will always stay with me. I remember I met our Chief Merchant at our graduate welcome day and told her my story. 6 months later she still remembered I was away from my family and came looking for me on the shop floor to make sure I had plans for Christmas. That memory will always stay with me.
After completing the graduate scheme I wanted the opportunity to grow and move around in the business, and I found that in various positions across our Buying and Merchandising teams. In 2016 I left for a year to take on a different opportunity but decided to come back a year later to take on an exciting new role as a project manager in Merchandising, before becoming Merchandising Development Manager. What can I say, I missed it?
Today, I have a new role as Head of Data Analytics. This is an exciting time for the business. We are creating a data analytics centre of excellence to provide trusted, accessible, quality data to support the business in making better decisions. And what’s great about that is; we are building the foundation of a new data-driven legacy. We aim to help every other part of the business drive continuous improvement.
We’re building a team of Data Analysts, Data Engineers, Master Data Managers, Business Intelligence Developers and Data Scientists. So, keep a lookout for these roles. It’s the start of something new, what an exciting time join.
