Building a wardrobe of fragrances

Tell us a little bit about your role?
Hi, I’m Michael, a Client Experience Manager for Henry Jacques in our Salon De Parfums department. My role is all about building relationships with our clients, getting to know their unique personalities so together we can discover individual notes and build a wardrobe of fragrances to reflect and complement their moods throughout the day.
Tell us a little about your time at Harrods?

I joined the family in 2016. I love working in an environment where you can truly be yourself and bring that to your role – to create unforgettable experiences for our clients. Alongside my role, I am also part of our LGBTQ+ network. It’s such a great initiative; we come together to share ideas and experiences that help shape the narrative of all we hope to achieve. The network is growing and it’s a privilege to get to meet such dynamic and interesting individuals.  I have great admiration for James Moore (our Vice chairperson for the network) and all he does to connect us all to one another.
Working with fragrances, do you have a favourite scent?
One of my favourite scents is iris – instead of using the leaf or the flower to harness the scent, we use the bulb at the root of the flower. We have to mature the flower for four years, dry the bulbs for around five years and then we powder and distil the bulb. It’s absolutely fascinating because it looks like an oceanic rock. But the result you get is phenomenal.
Tell us something about you that your colleagues may not know?
For the last 12 years, I have worked as a runway and editorial model. I also run a podcast with a friend called; The Queer Corner. We discuss and celebrate LGBTQ+ art, history, literature, culture and music – it’s lots of fun.
