Express yourself

James joined Harrods more than three years ago as our Advertising Executive.

Today he has a brand-new role as Marcomms Manager, as well as Vice Chairperson for our LGBTQ+ network. We caught up with him to find out what he’s been up to.
 
I’ve been working at Harrods for just over three years now and there’s isn’t a day here when I don’t feel inspired. Just walking around the store and discovering our masterplan renovations and all the exciting new developments across fashion, technology, beauty, interiors -  it gives me goosebumps and a real sense of pride to be here!   
 
As well as my immense pride to work at Harrods and be part of such a historic brand, I am also extremely proud to be part of the LGBTQ+ community. In June 2019, these passions collided when I had the absolute honour of helping launch the first Harrods LGBTQ+ Network. The network launched during the Pride in London festival, with an aim to connect LGBTQ+ individuals and allies from across our business. Through the Harrods LGBTQ+ Network, we aim to build a colleague-owned, connected community; a safe space where people can share their experiences and suggest ways in which, together, we can build a workplace where everyone feels they can truly be themselves.
 
Being part of the launch of the LGBTQ+ network and receiving such positive feedback from members really does mean the world to me. And the future of our LGBTQ+ network looks extremely bright, with so much planned for the year ahead, including exciting partnerships, social events, campaigns and a speaker series.
 
The LGBTQ+ network exists for a community at Harrods to come together and express themselves, and this idea also played a part in another of my career highlights. One of my favourite projects to work on at Harrods was supporting the launch of Men’s Superbrands, where we collaborated with Dazed Media’s multi-platform video channel, NOWNESS on a video campaign that brought together the worlds of fashion and dance. The film we created with Dazed, titled 'Come Together', featured four-movement artists who explored the art of dance, the influence of fashion and the meaning of masculinity in the 21st century. One of the dancers perfectly encapsulated our new men’s destination as a ‘space where everybody can come together and express.’  And for me, that’s one of my favourite things about being at Harrods – working in a team where I feel I can express myself every day!
