Today is Earth Day and the theme is climate action. Food waste is a serious polluter contributing to the climate crisis. Here are some practical tips to help reduce your household food waste, they may also save you some money.
1. Know the food
Understand the best ways to store your food to increase product longevity. Websites such as, Food Storage A-Z provide some great tips on advice on how to store food properly.
2. Learn those labels
A key part of cutting down on food waste is understanding the different food labels. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) recommends becoming familiar with ‘use by’ and ‘best before’ labels. The Food Standards Agency’s website is a great place to find out more.

3. Get creative
The internet has been flooded with ideas on how we can get creative with our food leftovers. It’s a great time to take the time out and look into how you can cook from existing cupboard stocks to avoid unnecessary trips to the shops. 

4. Can it go into the freezer?

5. A donation may go a long way
Do you know where your local food-bank is? Some supermarkets also have food donation baskets located at their entrance. And now there are even food sharing apps – there are different ways to donate food, find the best one that works for you.
