School Leaver to Assistant Buyer

I joined the School Leaver Programme when I was 18 years old. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do after finishing my A-levels. I applied to university as well as various vocational schemes, but I knew Harrods was the one for me from when I attended the assessment day. The environment was magical, everyone was friendly and welcoming and I really enjoyed the experience.
During the Programme, I worked with many people in the business, which set me up for my role in Buying. I was interested to learn more about our Buying roles and my managers set up a shadowing session with the team. When a role became available, I applied for it and here I am today, an Assistant Buyer managing a team of two.
I love that at Harrods we strive to make the impossible possible. Our people take pride in fulfilling the aspirations of our customers – there really is no problem too big. For example, on the shop floor, we were having an issue with our cushion making service, it wasn’t quick enough. We thought about how we can improve the service. Through networks we have in the alterations department – we were able to set up a cushion personalisation service in house! The team were delighted to see their feedback come to life.
