We met up with our Marcomms Exec, Katy. Starting her career at Harrods in Feb 2016 as an Internal Communications Executive, in 2017 she moved into the Marketing team. 

So, what was it like moving to a completely different department and how did she get there? We found out.  

Tell us a little bit about your new role:
We recently had a restructure of the Marketing team so my new role is as a Marcomms executive. In short, I am part of the team that is the central point of the new marketing structure, fostering collaboration for all major storewide marketing projects. My day to day includes working closely with my divisional marketing colleagues and other teams within the Brand Experience Division (PR, Digital, Publishing and Social Media etc.) to ensure all of our marketing activities are being played out and represented consistently across all channels.

Marketing, you must work on really exciting projects, what’s your favourite been so far?

Yes – we definitely do. It has to be the NSPCC Fashion Re-Told pop up shop. Which was our first-ever standalone store selling donated high-end designer items in aid of the NSPCC. Behind the scenes we collaborated with lots of people across the business – it was great to see volunteers come together and create something magical. As a business, we really care about people. It’s not just about luxury.

Any advice for anyone hoping to move departments?
Always have confidence in yourself – skills are transferrable – I’ve never worked in Marcomms before and I was able to. The communication skills I learnt from my previous role, I was able to apply to my current role. Generally, Harrods is amazing at allowing you to make movements.
