UNIQUELY YOU TOGETHER HARRODS

Teamwork makes the dream work

Susan is our Charity Partnerships manager, she brings our people together in the name of fundraising. We caught up with her to find out about her role and the power of teamwork.

I started working for Harrods back in 1989. I was the PA to the Press & Marketing directors for several years; then, around 2000, I started to look after our charitable support, and eventually became our Charity Partnerships Manager. Put simply, my position provides direction on the global and local charity partnerships that are aligned to our brand. Providing guidance and support on best practice for meeting fundraising and volunteering goals and having an impact on the charitable cause with which we are aligned.

Teamwork is at the heart of the charity initiatives that we organise throughout the year (just look at how our people came together for Fashion Re-Told!). Teamwork allows us to fundraise and complete challenges in aid of the NSPCC. Every year we have a number of intrepid members of staff who take on an overseas challenge. It’s very inspiring, these groups have been to all corners of the world – climbing Kilimanjaro and the mountains of Machu Picchu; and trekking along the Great Wall of China and across the Sahara Desert, not to mention walking the beautiful mountains of Transylvania and all in support of the NSPCC.

Our latest adventurers are going to be travelling to Beyond the Grand Canyon as well as canoeing along the Zambezi River. Teams come together to host events that vary from bake sales and raffles to pub quizzes and dodgeball competitions. Locally, there are many other challenges taking place which vary from sky diving, Tough Mudder events, marathons and cycle races to climbing the Gherkin or the Three Peaks and taking on the Dragon Boat Race. We also have a number of volunteering opportunities for staff, from doing conservation work in parks across London to serving lunch to the homeless in Earl’s Court. All this is achieved by the teamwork of our people who are looking to contribute to local communities and help worthy causes.
