Hi everyone, my name is Jake. I have worked at Harrods for 21 years. I started as a Christmas Temp in Distribution. Today I am a Senior Warehouse Manager for Fashion – still working in Distribution of course.
Today I am here to share a little bit about what I’ve been doing outside of work. I’m really into recycling, I love to give something a second lease of life rather than chucking it away in the skip or bin. After finishing some fine vintage wines over the festive period, I made a coffee table using empty wine crates and an old cabinet door. It took about two hours to make, I sketched the table out on paper, measured, cut, screwed it together and it was all done. I just gave it its final wax coat last week – opting for the classic rustic beeswax. I’m pretty proud of how it has turned out.
Take a look at the picture below.

I suffer from insomnia so often find myself up till the early hours, creating things. It’s something that comes very naturally to me, and I thoroughly enjoy it. I’ve created a book shelve using the same method, and side cabinets with added lights for a friend.
I come from a farming background, I descend from a noble line of shepherds and olive pickers, and we never waste a thing. I think it’s so important for our environment to be as sustainable as we possibly can – it’s little things like reducing our plastic usage, recycling when we can, and planting trees that can make a huge difference for future generations.
And on that note, I am going to leave you with my favourite Harrods memory and that was when Crown Court first opened. Believe it or not, I was part of the original team who kitted it all out. A great memory for all.
Thanks for taking the time out to read
Jake
