Meet Luba: How Security Officers begin their journey

Luboslava Sevcikova, known as Luba, began her Harrods journey after moving to the UK from Slovakia at just 18 years old. What started as a short-term plan to experience life abroad and learn English gradually became something much more long-lasting.

“My journey began in July 2009, when I started working in Childrenswear. I stayed there for several years. I really enjoyed it because it was a good place to start working at Harrods. I learned a lot. Over a year ago, I made the transition to the Security department, and each day has been an exciting new challenge.”

A day in the life of a Security Officer

A typical day doesn’t really exist in Security Officer jobs at Harrods. Each shift brings different situations, different people, and different demands. Security Officers work across the store, staying alert, supporting colleagues, and responding calmly when things change. Preparation, awareness, and judgement all matter, but so does how situations are handled in the moment.

As Luba explains:

“Every day is different. You don't know what to expect and you have to be ready for anything which can be sometimes challenging but I do like to be challenged so it's not an issue for me.”

Skills and qualities that matter in Security Officer roles

Security Officers work closely with teams across the business, relying on each other and taking shared responsibility for the store and everyone in it. Luba explains what drew her to security in the first place and the unique benefits of being a female Security Officer:

“It’s a great job. I applied because I was looking at different choices throughout the store and this was one of the options which was standing out for me. In my role, I work with a lot of men and being a woman gives me some unique qualities, I think women bring calmness into a lot of situations.”
