Assistant Transport Manager

Our Thatcham Based Transport team are now looking for an experienced Assistant Manager to support the Distribution function with the day to day running of the department.

This role plays a key part in our famous fleet of green and gold lorries driven by our HGV drivers, delivering to our famous Knightsbridge store to our loyal customers. 

This is a full time position working 37.5 hours per week between the hours of 8am-6pm Monday to Friday with 1 in 3 Saturdays. Please note that shift patterns are susceptible to change in line with business demand and peak times. 

About the Role

The Assistant Manager within the transport function plays a pivotal role in the day to day smooth running of the distribution centre. Providing support and leadership to the existing team whilst running an efficient work area in line with Harrods standards.

You will also be responsible for:
•    Ensuring that all staff members, including themselves, are fully conversant and up to date with all relevant SAP functionalities.
•    Regularly reviewing procedures for improvements in efficiency and working practices
•    Performance  monitoring,  coaching  and  development of the team as well as conducting annual/quarterly performance reviews.
•    Ensuring customer satisfaction is maintained through the efficient delivery and collection of merchandise and that the drivers uphold company policies and image at all times.
•    Responsible for the Drivers, vehicles and Delivery planning team including daily visual inspections of the vehicles, checking for damage etc and ensuring daily operational standards of the department are met.
•    Ensuring that Housekeeping and Health and Safety standards are maintained at all times.

About You

You will have good communication skills and be able to interact with both internal stakeholders and external customers. You will be a confident communicator who can lead and support the existing distribution team driving sleek and efficient working processes. You will be a valuable team player who thrives on getting the job done together and sharing the victory of meeting all transport targets with the rest of your team.
You’ll also have:
•    Previous experience using Workday time and people management tool.
•    A valid CE category driving licence, along with a Drivers Qualification Card.
•    Have a good working knowledge of drivers hours and route planning.
•    Experience of working flexible hours/days and demonstrate the ability to adapt to the changing demands of the role.
