SQL Server DBA

Our IT department is the dynamo of our business innovation here at Harrods and deliver invaluable support to the business and our customers to ensure the smoothest and most secure customer experience as well as an efficient and tailored business support operation. Our Enterprise services team play a principle role in the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL Server systems, to ensure the availability and performance of our applications. The role of SQL Server DBA is a hands-on position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

About you

You’ll be an experienced SQL DBA with excellent T-SQL skills in the DBA arena. You’ll have working knowledge SQL HA/DR technology (WFC, Always On, mirroring). Your previous positions will showcase your experience of performance tuning and optimization techniques using native and third-party tools as well as your experience of maintaining a hybrid on-premise and Azure environments. You’ll have demonstrated knowledge of SQL internals, schemas, permissions and partitions and experience to SSIS/SSAS/SSRS. You’ll require knowledge of MS best practices for SQL server as well as SDLC and server landscapes consisting of Development, QA and Production environments

You’ll be versed in ITIL principles and monitoring tools such as SQL monitor or SCOM, accustomed to working in a fast paced environment and a varied IT workforce to deliver effective SQL server platforms and other applications suitable for a luxury retail business like ours.

What to expect

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and sustainment of the SQL Server and ensuring its operational readiness, executing data loads, and performing data modelling in support of multiple development teams.  You’ll need to be adept to working alone and as a team as a technical expert in your field. You’ll contribute to strategy & planning of process improvement to obtain efficiencies and promoting best practices. In this role you will define and ensure the adoption of database standards across Information Technology, recommend and implement improvements to environments to ensure continued operational capacity and keep abreast of new innovations and trends in the industry. Ultimately you will work with a customer focus, delivering to agreed SLA’s to support server estate at application level.  This role requires an on-call rotation and occasional weekend and overnight work.
