We have a very exciting opportunity for 2 x Apprentice Engineers to join the Harrods team.  You will learn to become a multi-skilled technician; you will be provided with industry standard training and have options of further development.

About the Role

The course will start in September 2024 with a 2 week training period on site with our training provider, Train’d Up.  You will then work on site at Harrods amongst our expert team of engineers & electricians. 

This is a multi-skilled technician role, and at the end of the 36 months, you will achieve NVQ level 3 MOET qualification as ‘Maintenance Engineering & Operations Technician’.  Providing the training and accreditations have been achieved, you could have the opportunity to progress further in the business with further qualifications and/or become a full time Engineering Technician if there are positions available.

Alongside your apprentice colleagues, you will work on a rotation through the departments on a cycle.  The departments you will rotate through will be as follows:

  • BMS/HVAC - Controls on BMS system Air conditioning plant.
  • Plumbing - Washrooms - drainage - sprinkler systems.
  • Electrical - Secondary distribution final circuits - lighting - small power.
  • Maintenance - Building fabric maintenance.
  • Engineering Control - HV and LV primary distribution - control and monitoring Standby Generation - Primary utilities distribution (Gas - Water - Cooling Plant).

Training: What will this cover?

  • Training is in modules and up to an A level academic standard (a good standard of English and Maths education required – Maths will be a significant part of your training)
  • Academic training is on a designated day in the Hammersmith Head Office complex
  • Opportunity to go to NVQ4 level after the 36 months
  • Opportunity to supplement training during the 36 months with other more specialised courses
  • Training performance and assessments will be tracked and reviewed by specialist mentors, and your line manager, to ensure that you are on track to complete and achieve the required level.

Provided by Harrods:

  • Tooling provided - base set including tool bag, laptop, mobile device & IT provisions.
  • Uniform provided including safety boots and all PPE.
  • You will have a training mentor allocated along with a work buddy.
  • If successful in your application, you will need to have a safety medical assessment which will be in person, in Knightsbridge and includes a drug and alcohol test. 

You must be available on 23rd May for an in-person assessment day at our office in Hammersmith.  You must also be able to join us at the beginning of September and have no holidays booked during this month as the training dates cannot be moved.   

About You

You are a dedicated self-starter, able to ensure all training and assessments are completed on time, and you will have a strong customer service/communication focus when dealing with both internal and external parties. You are adaptable to the differing environments and have excellent time management skills. 

You will have good maths skills, and strong PC literacy, along with a clear passion for engineering, facilities and health & safety management.  You will ideally with some knowledge of the industry, whether that be from a personal or professional viewpoint.
