Fire Safety Manager

We are looking for a Fire Safety Manager to support the Head of Fire, Health and Safety in fire safety management matters. You will develop and implement the Fire Safety Strategy and Objectives, manage the Fire Safety Team Leaders and their respective teams, as well as maintain professional management cover on a rotational basis.

About the role

Your role will be to ensure compliance with the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order (2005), be the subject matter expert for all fire safety enquiries and undertake fire risk assessments in accordance with the Fire Safety Strategy of the relevant building. You will increase awareness and understanding of fire safety through engagement with stakeholders to positively influence behaviours and continuous improvement of fire safety across the organisation.

You must be a subject matter expert and comfortable working on complex sites as our main store is more than 170 years old and going through constant regeneration and rebuilding. You will be implementing and managing all fire safety procedures to ensure latest legislation, codes of practice and best practice have been reflected and incorporated.

You will identify and implement a programme in relation to fire safety expenditure and budget for the organisation based on significant findings of the fire risk assessments, continuous improvement and legislative requirements. You will also be able to build with strong relationships with stakeholders to provide guidance, support  and raise awareness of key responsibilities related to fire safety within the business.

About You

We are looking for someone that can quickly become the face of our Fire department and easily build relationships with our concessionaires and other stakeholders. A qualification in fire safety management or fire engineering at Degree or Diploma level 4 is required, as well as membership of the Institute of Fire Engineers (or equivalent).

Significant fire risk management experience obtained within the property/retail sector covering both construction and operational management would be preferred. You will be expected to have thorough understanding of the Regulatory Reform (fire safety) Order 2005, BS 9999 and Approved document B. 5. We will also be looking for demonstrable experience of working in partnership with enforcement officers and ideally, event management experience (fire and life safety).

This is a 42 hour contract, that requires you to be in the office 3-4 days per week depending on business needs. The shifts are on a 5/7 rota basis, which includes some weekend work (1 weekend in 8) and late shifts. A degree of flexibility is required, as some out-of-hour work may occasionally be required.
