Our Store Operations Team are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our team of 6 technical staff on the planning, operation and execution of maintenance, for mechanical and electrical systems across our main store. Alongside this you will manage contractors for our water systems, reviewing daily activities, compliance and optimising our current and future processes.

About the role

You will assist with the development of the Engineering Control team’s capabilities ensuring our critical mechanical, electrical and control infrastructure is monitored closely to ensure the highest level of safety, resilience and availability.

No day will be the same, collaborating with various stakeholders and SMEs to ensure our systems achieve their operation goals.

In this role you will…

  • Monitor and analyse system performance data to optimise efficiency and address issues proactively.
  • Ensure all Engineering systems comply with regulations (e.g. The Water Supply Regulations 2016, HSG 274, PER Regs 1999, BS9999).
  • Be the key contact for our Water Systems contractors, able to audit, review and decide on our future direction for this side of the business.
  • Manage and improve all mechanical and mission critical system related contracts for efficiency and performance.
  • Prepare and submit required reports, permits, and documentation to regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure adherence to compliance standards.
  • Be the development / project technical interface for the primary Facilities and Engineering infrastructure.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system performance and resilience by creating business cases for capital funding that demonstrates to our key stakeholders we are increasing resilience with planned spending.
  • Identify and prioritise infrastructure upgrades, expansions, and replacements ensuring compliance, reliability and energy reductions are achieved where possible.
  • Support sustainability initiatives including low-carbon objectives as set by the business.

About You

You will have leadership experience providing a stable engineering platform that ensures the business is always ready to trade, with a focus on continuous improvement and the desire to collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to make positive change.

You will have…

Technical skills:

  • Mechanical qualifications such as City & Guilds, NVQ3, HNC or HND.
  • Experience working across water treatment plants, cooling towers, HVAC, hot and cold-water distribution systems and related infrastructure.

Personal qualities:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Supportive Manager who enjoys empowering and developing their team.
  • Strong problem solver with the ability to use judgement and reasoning to identify solutions or approaches to challenges.
  • Resilient, tenacious and open to personal development feedback.
