Chloe’s journey in a buying assistant job: thriving in the world of Food & Beverage at Harrods

Posting date: 04/12/24

At Harrods, every product that graces our shelves tells a story, and behind those stories are passionate professionals making it all happen. One such person is Chloe, a Buying Assistant in Food & Beverage, whose role is as dynamic as it is vital.

Buying is often seen as simply sourcing products, but Chloe’s day-to-day reveals that being a buying assistant is about so much more: balancing data, managing relationships, and keeping a complex operation running like clockwork.

Here, we take you inside Chloe’s world to see what makes this role truly unique.

What does a Buying Assistant do at Harrods?

Chloe’s work is a blend of creativity, organisation, and collaboration. From building detailed trade reports to working closely with concession brands, suppliers, and studio teams, she supports the seasonal campaigns that keep Harrods ahead of the curve.

She explains it best: “Buying is very comprehensive, it’s not only about the product or data or working with external stakeholders; it’s all of them combined with customers at the center.”

Using tools like SAP and Excel, Chloe helps category buyers maintain product data and ensures everything is on track.

Her role requires juggling multiple stakeholders, each with their own schedules and deadlines, which can be challenging, but it’s also what keeps the job exciting.

Chloe’s journey: From Retail to Buying Assistant

Before stepping into her current role, Chloe gained invaluable retail experience while completing her postgraduate study in Buying and Merchandising. Her goal has always been to become a buyer at Harrods, and landing this role was a proud moment.

“I love the culture at Harrods,” Chloe says. “We always make it possible for our customers, and I’m so glad to be part of that.”
