Assistant Manager

We are looking for an exceptional Assistant Manager to join our Transport team and support the Transport Manager in the day-to-day running of the department. This role is key in upholding the high standards expected at Harrods and ensuring our operations run smoothly and efficiently. 

About the Role 

As Assistant Manager, you will play a vital role in leading and developing our Transport team. You will be responsible for overseeing the Drivers and the Big-Ticket Delivery Planning team, ensuring that daily operations are carried out to the highest standard and in line with business requirements. Reporting to the Transport Manager, you will focus on operational excellence, staff performance, and customer satisfaction. 

Your responsibilities will include: 

• Ensuring all team members, including yourself, are fully trained and up to date with relevant systems such as SAP and Workday. 
• Overseeing daily operations including route planning, driver debriefs, vehicle inspections and maintaining service standards. 
• Monitoring and developing team performance through regular coaching, documented reviews and performance management. 
• Managing rotas effectively to ensure business needs are met while complying with driver hours and rest period regulations. 
• Supporting team harmony and engagement, addressing staffing issues and ensuring consistent communication. 
• Liaising with internal and external partners to ensure timely and efficient deliveries, while maintaining Harrods' standards of service and presentation. 
• Assisting with project work and continuous improvement initiatives within the department. 
• Acting as deputy for the Transport Manager when required.

About You 

You will be an experienced and proactive leader with a strong focus on operational efficiency and team development. Your excellent communication skills will enable you to work confidently with colleagues, drivers and external partners, ensuring our customers receive an exceptional level of service. 

You will also have: 

• Proven experience managing teams in a transport or logistics environment. 
• A valid CE category driving licence and Driver Qualification Card. 
• Strong knowledge of driver hours regulations and route planning. 
• Excellent planning and organisational skills, with the ability to adapt to changing demands. 
• A focus on maintaining high standards of health and safety, housekeeping and team presentation. 
• A flexible approach to working hours and days to meet business needs. 
• A commitment to upholding Harrods' values of integrity, trust and customer focus.
